We have been featured in issue #82 of LEGACY, Europe’s most prestigious Metal Magazine. On page 96 you will find a full color, full page interview with the band; and MANTIIS review stands out on page 143 with an excellent score of 14/15. It reads this way (English version below):
Five years have passed since the Catalonian OBSIDIAN KINGDOM came up with their “Matter” EP. Nice expandable progressive metal, we wrote at the time. Being progressive was then considered as not too pejorative but, in the end, obsidian is just simple silicon dioxide. With ‘Mantiis (An Agony in Fourteen Bites)’, the band’s big shot, they have succeeded both with the beautiful digipack – which includes visual excursions into the world of mantids (hay or fishing, praying mantis) – and with showing a quality that most labels would not provide their new bands with. The idea of putting the fragmented 14 pieces into a large Opus seems to have put up well with the Spaniards. Each one of the pieces has its own name and also works quite independently, if one can say that at all; because opulence is the real meaning of all the songs. There are the trumpets in ‘Last of the Light’ or the military marching percussion in ‘Ball-Room’ but, above all, there are constant eruptions and retarding phases on the songs that work as perfect improvisations, while the vocals remind of the newer Enslaved. Everything is often garnished with unusual drumming patterns; have we already spoken about the production? This time the Catalans have scratched their pockets and turned to Jens Bogren (Opeth, Katatonia, Soilwork, etc) for that matter. How come a band like OBSIDIAN KINGDOM is still without a record deal? Can it be because there is no market for it? Such a thing cannot be tolerated. (Johannes Paul Köhler)
